Bystander

Was I wrong
to pick a side?

Would it have been better
to remain a spectator,
disinterested observer,
give it some time?

Was I wrong
to pick a team?

Would it have been wiser
to sit on the sidelines,
watch from afar,
blow-to-blow,
never reaching me?

Was I wrong
to tread the line?

Should I have stood still,
waited for the stars to align,
waited for a sign?

Or was I right to try,
to put my heart on the line,
speak my mind,
step outside?

God only knows.

But for my part,
I think it better to try;

I’d rather risk the fall
than risk
                 never                    flight.
