Firework night

I miss who we were
when fireworks set the sky ablaze,
a haze of colours drowned out the moonlight,
lit up your face,
and you would smile.

(And my heart would melt,
and I felt like I belonged.)

But now a smile says a thousand words
(something’s different – what’s changed?),
and I miss the time
when we would smile
together.
